Massimo Borlandi teaches sociology at Turin University.
Raymond Boudon, member of the Institute, is a professor emeritus at the Sorbonne University (Paris IV).
Mohammed Cherkaoui is a director of research at the CNRS.
Bernard Valade teaches sociology at the University René-Descartes (Paris V).
More than 200 authors have contributed to this dictionary of truly international scope.
It approaches sociological thinking from four angles:
- the terms describing the object and the method of sociology, i.e. a complete panorama of theoretical currents and Schools
- explanations of specific social phenomena (from collective action to urban violence)
- the social context within which sociological thought has been evolving since the 18th century
- institutions (departments, laboratories, reviews) that have accompanied its development
