Formerly a lecturer at the Sorbonne University, Nicolas Grimaldi has assembled in this latest work the essential elements of a reflection almost entirely devoted to the pain of separation, solitude, desire and time.Could any experience be more banal than our spontaneous awareness of time and life? Yet we cannot experience time other than through waiting and we only feel we are alive inasmuch as we feel exposed to death. So could there be anything more banal than time, life, waiting and death to characterize the inherent comprehension that we have of our existence?
But since all waiting presupposes the imagination of what we are waiting for, we cannot really separate the imaginary from the banality of our existence. Not only does it govern all experience of desire, but also and essentially that of play.
This Traité de la banalité aims only to be a mirror, wherein each reader can observe the reflection of what is quite simply existence.
